About Us

What is Family CAFÉ?

The Center to Advance Family Engagement (CAFÉ) is dedicated to helping families and schools work together so that every child, especially those with disabilities from highly mobile backgrounds, can succeed. Family CAFÉ focuses on communities and schools with highly mobile families who have children with disabilities, where strong family-school partnerships are often the most needed and the hardest to build.

Our Purpose

Family CAFÉ exists to make family engagement simple, effective, and meaningful. We believe that when families are part of the decision-making process, students thrive. By working hand-in-hand with schools, we help ensure students with disabilities are included, supported, and given every opportunity to learn and grow.

What We Do

We create and share practical tools, resources, and training programs that support both families and educators. These include:

  • Training for Families and Educators – Helping parents understand their rights and roles, and helping schools learn how to better include families in planning and problem-solving.
  • Practical Resources – Websites, guides, and sample policies that schools and families can use right away.
  • Community Support – Opportunities for families and educators to connect, learn from each other, and build stronger networks of support.
  • Coaching and Technical Assistance – Personalized help for schools that want to improve their family engagement practices.
